Activities in the campsite and in the area

In the middle of the campsite we have swings, a seesaw, slide and carousel for children.

We also have 3 pedal cars, and a tricycle for smaller kids.

We have few bikes, also 2 children´s bikes, that you can borrow to get to know the surrounding natural landscape more closely.

Right from our area you can access the bike path, along which you can quickly and safely explore the sights of the city center.
For those who are thirsty for exercise, there is a school area a few hundred meters from the campsite, and the nearby sports facilities, basketball, volleyball and football fields, and playground equipment can be freely used during the summer.
In the tv-room you`ll find some games, like finnish mölkky and petanque.

Sámi Siida

Near our campsite, about 300 meters away, is Sámi Siida.

The area has a museum showcasing Sámi culture and reindeer herding, a souvenir shop and a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy local dishes, coffee or other drinks to quench your thirst.

Attractions

There are many attractions and natural sites worth seeing and experiencing in Alta and its surroundings.

Alta museum

The Alta Museum is located in a beautiful location by the sea at the base of the bay.

The museum has new exhibition spaces completed in the summer of 2013, as well as unique rock carvings outdoors along the museum route.
The museum also has a diverse and high-quality souvenir shop and a café with a magnificent view of the fjord.

The Northern Lights Cathedral is an architecturally interesting church in the heart of Alta, completed in the spring of 2013. There are also other interesting church buildings in Alta.

Nordlysbadet is a modern swimming bath with a gym in the center of Alta.

Amfi-center, Handelsparken and Park-center are shopping centers in the city center where you can find everything you need on your trip, as well as souvenirs to take home.

Juhls silver gallery

In Kautokeino, 120 kilometers towards Finland, is definitely a place worth visiting. The road itself is a sight to behold with its canyons at the beginning of the journey, and the building located on the riverbank is like a work of art. Inside the building there is plenty to admire and wonder about. On weekdays you can watch the silversmiths at work and in the shop you can find souvenirs and gifts.

Tirpiz-museum in Kĺfjord, about 15 km from Alta. The museum has a lot of pictures, objects and information about the fate of Germany's largest warship during World War II. The Tirpiz ship hid for a long time in the Kĺfjord fjord.

Halde

At the top of the mountain Halde is Norway's oldest observatory, which has been out of use for years. The building is an interesting, old stone building that has been renovated in recent years. A great hiking and excursion destination for those in good shape, walking 9 km one way. The smaller building has bunk beds and cooking facilities, so you can also stay overnight there. Ask for the fee and about key from the camping reception.

Canyon Alta

The mighty Canyon Alta

Alta Canyon is the largest canyon in Northern Europe, which you can explore by hiking or on a guided riverboat cruise.

Riverboat cruises are organized, among others from Sorrisniva.

You can reach the canyon on two different routes. In Sautso, there is the Alta Dam, where the canyon begins. There goes a road to the dam, but at the end it is closed by a barrier, so the rest of the way, about 7 kilometers in each direction, must be covered on foot or by bicycle. There you have a view on the bottom of the canyon.

The second route goes through Gargia, and the hiking distance from there is the same as in Sautso. Here the path runs through a swamp and forest landscape and you'll be standing high on the edge of the canyon.
